How an Air Filter Works for Your Car

Air filters are square or rectangle in shape. They have a rubber or plastic framing. On the interior of the filter, the woven cotton fibers known as media covers the perimeter of the filter frame. The filter allows air to flow through it, while trapping small and large particles from entering through the air intake and into your engine. The two main air filters for every car are for the engine and the air conditioning. Both require fresh air to function properly. The engine air filter is located in front of the engine space, where the air intake hose leads to the motor. The air conditioning (AC) filter is located usually on the interior of the vehicle beneath the dash of the front passenger's leg space. Both easy to access with just a screw driver.
